Community Relations Committee

The Community Relations Committee focuses on expanding our connections and raising awareness of Habitat for Humanity at University of Michigan chapter’s mission and successes beyond our campus and into the reach of greater Ann Arbor community. While the committee is responsible for organizing and working on many community-based projects for our Habitat chapter, one of the main functions of Community Relations is working with the Delonis Center, the local homeless shelter located on Huron Road. On almost every third and fourth Sunday of the month, a group of 5 Habitat for Humanity volunteers heads to the Delonis Center to staff their Community Kitchen for the afternoon, cooking and providing lunch. The Community Kitchen is a soup kitchen open to the public of Ann Arbor. In addition, our committee helps out and works with family support opportunities, mostly with a family that will be chosen for the Michigan House we are building this year. Throughout the year, our committee is going to be the one who will be building relationships with the family and providing them with smiles and gifts during holidays.

In addition to working with these community-based projects, Habitat also aims to reach out to our community in other various ways. If you are interested in pursuing these goals, consider joining the Community Relations Committee! It’s a great way to become more involved with Habitat and the Ann Arbor community and earn nails!

If you are interested in helping out or for more information, contact Adam at aabichir@umich.edu or habitat-community@umich.edu, attend our monthly mass meetings, or stop by our office in the Michigan Union from 11:30am-12:30pm on Thursdays.
