What Is the Volunteer Committee?
The Volunteer Committee is administratively responsible for organizing and leading volunteer labor for build days, securing build day transportation, and coordinating with Huron Valley and Detroit Affiliate Construction Committees. The committee is lead by Volunteer Coordinator Tina Liao and proactively works to build better Habitat houses and ensure all volunteers have the best possible Habitat experience.

Who Is A Member?
The Volunteer Committee seeks individuals with previous construciton experience or those who are willing to learn more about construction (this is not difficult!). Members of the committee commit to attending four build day Saturdays per semester and a montly volunteer committee meeting, typically after one of our regularly scheduled Chapter Meetings.

What do Committee Members Do?
While onsite, committee members assist the Volunteer Coordinator by leading small work groups of inexperienced volunteers, being familiar with construction and safety procedures of worksite and serves as a intermediary between UM students and affiliate House Leaders. We need two students per Saturday per build site we are working on, so there are plenty of opportunities to be involved. On campus, the committee members organize the logistics of upcoming build days, work with student groups who sign up for build days, provide a construction education segment to our chapter meetings and keep the rest of the chapter up to date on what is happening on the build days.

Why Should I Be Involved?
It is the chapter's intention to build in at other affliates across the state in the Winter Semester, so members of the committee will have priority on these build days as well as our spring break trip, Collegiate Challenge. Being a member of the committee affords you opportunities to gain leadership experience in Habitat, learn more about construction materials and methods, and be an integral part of the marquee activity of Habitat: working with others to build homes.
