Core Information

UMHFH is lead by a leadership board called the Core, consisting of 14 students from a variety of majors, interests and backgrounds. They steer the day to day operation of the group and oversee its major committees and activities.

Core Member Job Descriptions

General Board of Directors Responsibilities - Applies to ALL elected members
- Attend all board and mass meetings, with maximum allowance of three absences per semester.
- Help run one chapter meeting each semester.
- Attend at least one build day per semester.
- Participate in the planning and execution of at least one fundraising event per semester.
- Check email often and maintain frequent communication with board and membership regarding activity.
- Complete mid year and final evaluations.

President
- Prepare the agenda in consultation with the Board and Preside over all meetings
- Supervise all chapter and board activities
- Leads chapter and core goal setting processes
- Serve as liaison with other campus chapters
- Maintain communication between members of the Board of Directors
- Organizes and maintains Chapter calendar of events, meetings and activities.
- Serve as a member of Leadership Transition and Chapter Development Committee.
- Reserve rooms for meeting places of all board meetings and chapter events.
- Complete Annual Chapter Report to HFHI Campus Chapters Division.
- Keep in communication with faculty adviser.

Vice President
- Assist President whenever needed and perform duties of President if absent
- Serve as a member of Membership and Team Building Committee
- Coordinator of chapter retreats Overall Planning and Logistics and Team Building Activities
- Plan and execute one chapter social event each semester
- Oversee Habitat 101 training
- Oversee communication between HV (covenant affiliate) and chapter, coordinate yearly event.

Secretary
- Prepare, record and maintain minutes of the proceedings of the board of directors and chapter
- Maintain the membership roster database.
- Administer listserver messages, correspondence to chapter membership
- Read and reply, redirect messages address to generic habitat email address
- Maintain copies of all minutes from all meetings to be archived on the website and in the permanent chapter records and resource cd.
- Generally oversee the membership recognition program
- Serve as a member of Membership and Team Building Committee

Treasurer
- Serve as the custodian of and be responsible for the maintenance of the chapter’s financial records.
- Complete an annual budget by September 31 of each year and a year end budget report by April 15 for review and approval by Board of Directors.
- Provide monthly updates of budget
- Receive, deposit, and distribute funds authorized by the chapter.
- Serve as a member of Donation Campaign Committee
- Write grants and all funding requests
- Supervise the purchase and sale of all chapter merchandise.
- Register University of Michigan Habitat for Humanity with SOAS at the start of each fall semester.
- Complete the financial section of the Annual Report with the President.
- Oversee the chapter wide coordination of the donation campaign.

Volunteer Coordinator
- Maintain contact with the local affiliates construction committee and volunteer coordinator (Huron Valley and Detroit) to reserve spaces for volunteer on workdays
- Coordinate volunteer sign up sheet for workdays at meeting and on the website
- Arrange transportation for volunteers to site (through the Ginsberg Center)
- Make reminder calls or email to volunteers who have signed up
- Be responsible for coordination volunteers for the duration of each build day through direct involvement or delegation of authority.
- Schedule student/community groups for workdays
- Provide organizational assistance to leaders of student/community groups in preparation for workdays and arrange for a Habitat representative to discuss workdays at one of their meetings
- Serve as a member of Membership and Team Building Committee

Collegiate Challenge Coordinator
- Responsible for reserving the site for Collegiate Challenge
- Recruit students for the trip
- Act as a main contact to the host affiliate
- Work with the Treasurer, Fundraising and Publicity committees to prepare for the trip
- Plan itinerary, logistics and any other details of the trip as necessary
- Maintain financial responsibility for the trip
- Plan a workday or retreat for the Collegiate Challenge group before the trip.
- Serve as a member of Membership and Team Building Committee

Public Relations Committee Chairpersons
- Design and Coordinate all public relations
- Provide resources necessary to promote organization such as flyers, posters, ads, and newsletter.
- Be responsible for writing all press releases, and act as main contact for all media (newspaper, radio, television)
- Promote the chapter at volunteer fairs and other related events
- Raise awareness of Habitat for Humanity and in the community
- Serve as a member of Membership and Team Building Committee
- Serve as a member of Donation Campaign Committee
- Organize resources and volunteers for promotional fairs and recruiting opportunities.
- Update yearly informational and promotional brochures

Community Relations Coordinator
- Maintain Contact with the affiliate family relations committee
- Be a member of Donation Campaign Committee
- Work with the family relations committee at the Huron Valley affiliate to plan events with the family of the “Michigan House.”
- Maintain contact with local schools for and community organizations for facilitation of fundraising/educational events.
- Form partnerships/network outside the University.

Campus Relations Coordinator
- Be a member of Donation Campaign Committee
- Plan educational and awareness events aimed at the campus population regarding substandard housing problems.
- Be responsible for the organization and execution of Habifest.
- Organize Festifall and Winterfest with Publicity Chairpersons.
- Maintain contact with other student groups University departments about co-sponsoring educational or awareness events.

Fundraising Chairpersons
- Responsible for all fundraising programs of the chapter.
- Establish and oversee any special committees needed for events and solicit local and corporate sponsors.
- Work with Treasurer to maintain records of monetary transaction and profits
- Serve as a member of Leadership Transition and Chapter Development Committee
- Maintain contact with the local affiliates development committee Huron Valley
- Serve as a member of Donation Campaign Committee

Technology Coordinator
- Maintain and update the chapter web page
- Organize Chapter and Board of Director Resource CD for all documents and templates used by the Chapter.
- Work with Board of Directors to develop a timely and consistent flow of information to be posted on the chapter website.
- Oversee chapter media presentations for meetings and events.
- Assist the secretary with the supervision of chapter listserve, membership database and generic group email lists.
- Serve as a member of Leadership Transition and Chapter Development Committee
